It was a hot summer afternoon, we were on our way back from a long weekend at Algarve and decided for a detour and hit the Herdade do Esporão Winery for an unannounced visit.
Why Herdade do Esporão as there are hundreds of wineries in Alentejo, right? As a matter of fact I happen to like (a lot) Herdade do Esporão Wines, they have a wide range, for every consumer, from cheap under 4€ to… well… a lot, and the best of it is that even with the average price range wines, lets say 12€ you can have an outstanding wine, for me, Herdade do Esporão wines are always a safe choice.
One thing to consider if you are thinking about visiting a winery is to make sure that there is some activity going on there, if possible, the best time to visit one is in harvests, if, like me, you visit one in broad July afternoon the chances to lean the wine making process and to live the experience reduce drastically. On the other hand, it was a great afternoon, we had Herdade do Esporão all for ourselves no tour groups, no tourists, just us and the nice lady guide.
And of course, we had to finish the tour with a fine white wine!
